I can't get to the photos until I get round to fixing my computer sorry. But here's a couple of it today, excuse the terrible quality from my phone camera.

Long time with no internets.
Anyway, lost the two smelt a couple of weeks ago, so decided to move everything over into the new tank, even though there's still no stand for it. I made a wood frame to cover the corners safely and attach a lid to, then set it up on the floor in the lounge. Looks great, and the inotech pool filter works brilliantly. Just a bit empty for now, few bullies in this big deep tank. They love the background though, walk up and down it on their feet-fins, and cover the different levels much more than they did before. Just need some galaxids now, but I'll have to travel to find them.

I want to send them books now

Felt like a minute here. First couple of seconds I thought the dog was scratching on the bed, it was that sort of heavy rocking. Then I remembered he wasn't even in the room and dived out of bed. Hovered over mr2 in his cot, didn't know if we should run outside or what, then it stopped. Lights and everything outside kept moving for a while, my bird kite that hangs on the ceiling was zooming around the room lol. When nothing else happened I came and turned the computer back on to see where it was, did cross my mind that maybe it the was the finale for chch.

re trout, i've got an article from a fish and game mag about the differing opinions on the zealandia trout poisoning , and where it could be acceptable and possible to remove trout for the overall benefit to the sport. It mentions a few examples of small streams where only tiny trout grow, under 15cm, and how it may be better to block trout out of them and leave them to the natives so the resulting whitebait can feed the proper size trout in the rivers. So i'm guessing if they're stunted in a clean flowing stream they wouldn't do to well in a pond.

Congrats :happy2:
She's a lovely colour too, nice blue edges
-
we could do with some endlers

If it doesn't come apart, attach filter wool/sponge etc to the intake bottom part with a rubber band, then sit it on the gravel or wedge it in place with wood if it has no suction cups. Perfectly good filter.

Which pdf?

Thanks, that's a great thread.
I was planning on moving the tanks over in two weeks
Will see how he goes before I replan, he could still eat them all lol

Blue lighting is wicked
What sort of led strips did you use? I've got a 3ft marine blue fluro on my tank at the moment and love it, but want something to a strip the length of the new tank for night watching. Looking at those reels of flat leds that you can cut every 3 bulbs.

I love the blue in their fins :nfs:

congrats, have you had a spawn before?
Nope, can't you tell from the way I had to video the whole occasion :slfg:
He's got masses of eggs that I can see and probably plenty more that I can't, and she looks so skinny compared to yesterday hehe
-
Here's another vid, terrible quality because it's too dark in that corner and I don't want to disturb them with a torch..
I think i'll just have to let nature (read:smelt) take it's course sadly, if they hatch I could try and take some out to rear but then I can't do anything with them except keep them all.

:nfs:
I suspect that he would beable to eat just about anything he came across in the stream, even not so small trout
I can so picture him sitting there with several inches of trout tail sticking out of his gob lol, if giants are anything like my bullies i'm sure they'd happily swim around with their mouth stuck open until they can finally get it down :slfg:

They've been looking like they were getting ready to for a couple of days, mrs bully getting even rounder than normal and sort of pink bellied. Could see the eggs through her skin last night and she looked ready to explode. Mr bully was blacker than I'd ever seen him, picked himself out a spot and spent all his time flaring at her and at the smaller male bully, and trying to dance her into his spot. She swam around looking at both boys and checking out all the corners. Got them on film last night..

Sorry about the algae on the front of the tank
Smaller boy bully flared and darkened up for her a few times before mr bully chased him to a far corner and made him stay there. Anyway this morning they're both in that hollow under the wood and they've got eggs :happy1:
