Scuba Diving in Milford Sound *Photos!!!*
lucy replied to bdspider's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Great photos, I know they wouldn't have been easy to get. Fiordland is spectacular, especially to dive in it's clear waters. Fabulous!!! Are you a member of a photography club? -
Is a safety factor of say 1.8 OK. I understand that if it is less than 1 there is a chance of a tank breaking but what would be ideal. In laymans terms what does it mean please.

Hi I'm about to go back to to the Disputes Tribunal and wondering if anyone out there would like to be a witness for me i.e. had broken or leaking Aqua One Tanks. There's a lot of information on these tanks breaking but I need people that are willing maybe to go on telecommunication or be present at the hearing. I'm in Christchurch and the hearing is on July 10th.
-
I'll look into it but I'm already involved with the disputes tribunal, I've had one hearing already and it wasn't resolved then. Thanx for your input.
-
They have involved an Independant Case Analysis Consultant and he is advising them that if I go to court on Friday to counter claim $3,800 for costs incurred plus filing fees. They have my broken tanks and are having them examined by Environmental and scientific Research.
-
Amazonian can I contact you other than through FNZAS, I have my second meeting on Friday I feel I need more information as they may counter claim against me.
-
Amazonian, just wondering if you would like to be a witness via telecommunication?
-
Would you be willing to be a witness on telecommunication?

I would like to know how many people out there have had problems with Aqua One tanks please, either breaking or water spilling over the top.
-
Thanx guys for your help, I broke two last night remember they are already cracked and terriums now. My partner has something to accuratley measure them with, they look about 5mm thick, what a difference to doing the old fingers together trick. I'm also going to sample some of the corner glass aswell thanx for your input. 8)
-
Sorry I don't live in Auckland and taken so long to reply, but thanx for the offer. I think I will break one of my tanks properly and prove it's not very thick. I made enquiries yesterday at the pet shop, they rang the ditributers and got back to me that they are 10mm to 12mm thick, not sure why my fingers were just about touching from either side of the glass. I'll keep you posted. :bounce:
-
Thanx for the site for calculating the strength of a tank. I measured the tank, the problem is I can't get the lip off to measure the thickness of the glass, but I put my finger each side of it and they were approx 2mm apart. Does anyone know the thickness of glass in a 620T tank so I can accurately get a calculation?
-
Hi I have asked this question previously but only got one answer so would like a general consensus please, if you move a tank or bump it, what sort of time frame is it likely to break in please.
-
Yes I'm in dispute with Sales@Kongs they are the importer, they are saying it doesn't happen and it's my fault, I am interested if anyone else has contacted them directly! Disputes Tribunal look at the evidence but it is not taken as true evidence in court without the witness. Yes two tanks were T's and one AR620. 3 in total. :bounce:
-
I know this is a while ago, but did you have any luck with dealing with Sales@Kongs, I'm currently in a disputes tribunal hearing and they have informed me they have never had any problems with their tanks breaking without cause, i.e. being bumped etc, they are saying I bumped it with a vacuum cleaner. I think I would have remembered that and I don't vacuum at 6.30am. I get the drift that they are happy to replace, but I'm thinking they shouldn't be breaking in the first place, it is so stressful.
-
Thanx for that Linnie, yes it is stressful trying to keep fish alive and the stress of wet carpet. So is this an expected thing with fish keeping, I've had tanks previously and never would have dreamed of a tank breaking unless there had been a serious earthquake or someone or something had given it a good knock or fell into it. 6 feet is a pretty serious tank, what do you keep in it?. No I've given up, just keeping goldfish but the native fish sound fascinating, I've had one in my pond, they are gorgeous. There's an artist by the name of Alison Hale she paints native fish, kouro, short jawed kokopo and long jawed. I've got a painting called sunlit trout, it is lovely. Maybe I should just keep to painted ones and ones that you stick on the wall.
-
I took the big rocks out after the first one breaking. It comes with it's own stand and it has polysterine in the base Not sure how thick the glass is.
-
Thanx guys for your input : Has anyone got comments on how long after an impact has occured i.e. shifting the tank and when it could break. Oh I shifted it because I wanted a change, b4 it was behind the couch and when I shifted it it meant we could either look at it or the telly, the tank won most of the time. My second two tanks hadn't been shifted at all. Cheers
-
I've got a few questions to ask. 1 What is a reasonable way to shift a tank across the room, or should I say how do other people do it please? 2 Has anyone had a fishtank other than an Aqua one break please? 3 Has anybody else in Canterbury had leaks or overflows or breakages with Aqua one tanks please? 4 Is it a reasonable time of say 33 hours after shifting a tank that it breaks, I've been informed after impact it doesn't necessarily break striaght away. Did I mention this is a great site I wish I knew of it ages ago.
-
The importer, they offered a 4th tank, but whats the use of that. I'd given my fish away and didn't want the chances of another one breaking.
-
:bounce: Does anybody have some words of wisdom as my disputes tribunal hearing is next week. I'm thinking they are bringing in sub standard tanks, imagine having water all round the place and a child coming in contact with the plug, my multi plug didn't switch off. I'm just glad I was home each time to save the fish and carpet.
-
Two different places, the floor is concrete and the water level was even. I did have rocks in at first then changed it to drift wood and dept it away from the sides.
-
Thanx for that, I'm still thinking 3 tanks is a bit over the top as I was really really careful with the 2nd two. Got the carpet cleaned tonight will be interesting what improvements it makes. cheers
-
Just wondering if anybody has done anything about court action for broken fish tanks as it was very uspsetting for me having water gushing all over the floor and the possibilty of fish dieing and of course the outlay of money to set them up in the first place.!!!

smidgey where did you read the other 620T breaks please.
