Gee thanks adodge for putting up my photo i took!!!! Forgot i even went into this page so didnt come back to check till now as its heaps easier to do with kids all fast asleep in bed!!! We were going to make this a tropical tank BUT decided to see if the kids lost interest in having them as pets and didnt interfear with them too much!!! seems our cat is their best playmate as she lays on the table and they tease each other most nights- funny to watch!! luckily aquarium has a heavy lid she has no chance in opening!! Kids fell in love with the car and the fish have fun chasing each other thru it!!!!
  2. Have been watching fish on and off all day today- curiosity mostly!!! and fed them mashed up peas which they loved!! noticed later today that one of the "bloated"? ones is now doing "white poo" had a good look at all the fish with a mate who has fish and couldnt notice that any were males so maybe caused by pea clean out?
  3. Cheers for your What is dropsy though? Gee at this ate i will know a heck of a lot in a very short time!! Might have to go to the library and get out some goldfish info books too i think!! From info ive had here and other pages that came up on google im positive that we wont be having any eggs arrive as they are too young and small- bugest only 5cm at most and smallest only about 2cm. Is it a good idea to have fresh weed in the tank as well as plastic plants?
  4. thanks mj and Paul for your support re sarcasm BUT hey that's life and i've learnt something from it- if you dont ask silly questions u never learn! Should i seperate the baby fish who are not bloated or off balance and feed them as usual while the others go on their shelled pea diet? Another "silly" question but how many peas for 4 med sized goldfish? Their scales are not sticking out- that i can tell- as they are constantly on the go!!! What does it mean if they are? Sorry if i offended anyone with my "pregnancy" question.
  5. We have 6 goldfish that are from the same outside tank (only a few months old) and they are now in our indoor aquarium- Have noticed that 3 of them have become rather big in the belly and are also swimming off balance. We feed them fishflakes 2x a day- they are always hungry!!!!!!! I wondered if maybe they were pregnant but how/can u tell the sex of a goldfish? or if they are pregnant? if so do i need to change their living situation? we'd love to breed some babies!! 8)

hi, as some of you will know i have already asked questions re my new tank- which seems pretty boring compared to the ones most of you have on here!! We have chosen as rookies to start with the good old plain coldwater goldfish as thats what our sons wanted (and it was their Xmas present). Our twins have just turned 5 and adore the goldfish they had at the daycare they went to 2 days a week and our oldest son is 7 and always helps my Nanas neighbour with her outdoor goldfish tank- which is where we got ours from. We are pleased with what we have for now BUT already my husband is looking and talking about bigger tanks!!!!!!!!!! 8) It's great having a site like this with people full of knowledge to help people like us!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. :bounce: I went into the shop where we got the aquarium today and asked questions re the flow from the spray bar etc and got fantastic help! we have now added a regulator t-bar to it so are able to have it at a flow the fish seem happy with.
  11. thanks for the great advice! will have to get some better photos before i attempt all that though!! seems my goldfish are camera shy!!!
  12. yes just the plain good old goldfish like i had when i was my kids age!!!! (mind you our fish just had a round bowl with an oxygen shell and some weed and seemed to survive ok!!) will go and ask at the shop where we got the aquarium about what to do as they are very helpful and now that the kids know about it i dont have to disguise the questions! They are in a cold water tank also and im quite happy for them to breed iif they want to!
  13. how can i download the photos i have taken so my new goldfish can be "identified"?
  14. so my new fish can be identified? Thanks for any help!!!
  15. Hi, just took some photos so will see if i can download any- don't hold your breath though as im a rookie when it comes to this sort of thing to!!! lol
  16. oh and the fish type i am not sure of sorry.... got them from and outside tank that a friend breeds goldfish in and gives to family and mates- she has some at her house in a tank inside that have grown from babies to suit the size of the tank from the same outdoor pond so must work...
  17. yes thats right i am from sunny hawkes bay!!! Sorry been busy with kids all morning so just got online... our aquarium is a Hailea and the size is51.8cm x 39cm x 46cm. If that's any help. The fish only went in yesterday after the water having a few days without fish as instructed. Last night the oxygen supply was driving me crazy (tank is on breakfast bar outside our bedroom door) so i tried turning to face the glass, which the fish liked better, but in the end i removed the plug from the end of the stick that points out and the noise is less and the fish seem ok with it too!!! Hopefully this is giving them the oxygen needed?
  18. Hi, we got our boys a new fish tank for xmas and are "rookies"!! It has an in built filtration system and stereo spray bar, applied for water spraying, oxygen supply and wave making. We have also put in a fake plant and things 2 swim through (toys). We got 6 baby fish and 3 baby snails today and had the spray bar on but this seems to make them bet blown all over the place and we cant regulate it. I turned ot off a while ago to give them a break as the bigger ones seemed o be swimming slightly on their sides- but not near the top! Will it kill them if we leave it off overnight and then get some fresh weed tommorrow? It also has an in built light which it says to have on for at least 10 hours daily is this true? thanks for any advice!!
