  1. Hi Dave - do you sell your bettas? I have been looking but the ones in the fish shops lin Hamilton look terrible. Thanks, Z
  2. Yeah I figured ut's also because people wanted coloured fish!!!! S I can have several males together without females?
  3. Having done some research I have figured that in my new tank I would like dwarf gouramis with a few smaller fish (danios & guppys). I have read that you should keep more females than males but in the fish shops there are no females, just males. I presume this is to stop people breeding? SO where can I get females. I have one small yellow dwarf gourami. I really like the cobalt blue gouramis and the other really colourful red & blue ones. If anyone can let me know where I can source some that would be great. I'm in Hamilton and don't really want to travel too far but will be going via Auckland on 19th so could do something then. Thanks in advance for help! Z
  4. I've started with 5 danios (a variety) and a chinese algae eater. Seem happy at the mo even though I'm having trouble settling the temperature in the tank. My advantage is that I bought a demo tank. It was emptied and then re-filled the same afternoon and I had the gravel. SO hoping my tank won't take so long to cycle.
  5. So I have bought my second tank - a Aqua One 620- 90 litres. I introduced myself on the other forum. I have spent the last 3 days obsessively reseraching and hassling the lovely man at the fish shop!!!!!! Firstly, I'd like to know, how do I know when my tank is fully cycled? It was a demo tank so was emptied at the shop and then refilled the same afternoon. So I am hoping the healthy bacteria will build nicely. I have the same gravel so apparently that should help. I was recommended to add a couple of fish now as that would help. A possibility might be danios or a chinese sucking thing (?)!!!!!!!!!! I am interested in the combination of angelfish, dwarf gouramis and clown loach. And something else smaller but I know not to put in tetra neons!!!! My understanding is that if I am putting in angelfish in they either need to be the same size approx as the gouramis or if they are bigger they need to go in last?

    Newbie!

It would be helpful if I knew what 'how are you going to cycle your tank' meant?!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought my tank as it was a display tank. So it has been in use. They emptied it there and then for me, I brought it home and filled it straight away. The pump is running and the light, and I have put plants in. It has those carbon filter pads as well a the black sponge stuff. My understanding is that it already has a lot of healthy bacteria in it and so won't be as hard to set up as my first tank? I was presuming I should leave it for a couple of weeks and then put in fish gradually. As you can obviously tell I am an excited beginner!!!!!!!! I caught the bug! I only started because I loved tetra neons!!!!!!!!! I have been looking at fish today and done some research. I like angels, gouramis, danios, guppies & tetras. I also really like cichlids (blue texas & jewel) but understand I can't have anything with them? I am probably going to go for a community tank for the interest. SO at the moment thinking a combo of angels, danios/ tetras and gouramis might be nice. BUT I have no idea how many I can put in there! Any advice most gratefully recieved.
