  1. Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately my orange fantail died The night prior I had decided he was well enough to return to the tank, but the next morning I woke and he was no longer alive. The good news is that I have kept the water nice and clear and treated the tank water with melafix and the lesions on my other fish have completely healed - bizzare! Anyhow, many thanks again for your advice and support
  2. Hi all. Am looking for some advice please - any would be appreciated! Hokay - about 6 months ago I had a large fantail who died after a long illness of what I suspect was TB - weird I know, but she displayed every possible symptom. To fastforward ... I now have 2 x sick fish! At first I thought it was TB as the first of the sick fishies was displaying a slack tail, black spots under its scales (he is bright orange with no colouring) and a fungus which I initially thought was whitespot. I treated the fish for whitespot and then salt tonic, but that seems to encourage the fungus to bloom into a cloud like substance. The black spots are weird too - they look like hair shafts under the skin! This fish has been out of the tank for nearly two weeks being treated and he appears perkier, but the symptoms have not disappeared. Tonight I noticed a second fish is not doing too well! He is gold and has these weird looking lesion type wounds on his rear shank (they almost mirror each other on both sides). The lesions are approx .5cm width and are made up of paralell lines - they have occurred pretty quickly as I check them each night! The scales seem to still be there, but the lesions look festered and red. He also has the white fungus (I have been treating the tank with salt tonic and whitespot treatment too) but not the spots or slack tail. The tank is 300 litre Jebo and I do a weekly gravel vac and water change. I have also had quite a bit of algae but have been treating it with a weekly tank scrub and algae reducer. This keeps it at bay for 2-3 days and then it slowly creeps back ... One strange thing about the tank I've noticed is that the filter outlet (where the filtered water returns into the tank) does not sit under the water so it creates quite a current which I suspect creates some stress. I've asked a number of LPS's if they have additional fittings to eliminate this but without success. Sorry I've unloaded so many questions in here! Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light from previous experience. Thank you in anticipation!
  3. Thank you! Love this forum I treated the fish as per chilodnella and they are remarkably better!
  4. Hi there, algae prob under control. Seems to come off very easily, and I managed to get most of it during this weekends water change. The flashing symptom has however erupted to both fish being covered in patches of a white milky looking covering. Originally thought it was white spot but it appeared overnight (bizarre) and am thinking that it may be something different given its rapidness?

I haven't tested the water in the last week, but did so for the first couple of weeks after establishing the tank and it seemed OK then. Will get on to testing it shortly! Just a question please - what is prazipro and how do you obtain it?
  6. Thank you for all your feedback and support! I will try scraping it off, was just nervous about doing so in case it spread it around the tank more. On the subject of what it looks like, if almost looks like powdery cloud like small masses, dotted around the tank. They are a camo green (although you have to look fairly closely to ascertain that), and seem to be growing a bit larger. I think there may be some on my java fern too! I have also noticed some white stringy like substance (although not thick enough to be droppings) floating around and caught on the plant leaves. Except for the occasional flashing, the fish seem pretty happy at the mo

Would love some advice please. I have a tank which is 160 litres, cold water, has a filter, live plants and is home to two lovely goldfish (although I'm still a little confused about specifically what type). The tank sits just below the windowsill (ie. not windowsill height) in a bedroom. I have had the tank for approxiately 8 weeks, although the fish much longer - they were originally in an outdoor pond. Recently one of my dearest fish died and I suspect he died of TB after doing lots of research re each symptom as they presented. The symptons in order were pop-eye, swimming upside down, dropsy, slack broken looking tail, blood spots or ulcers on body and finally seizures - this occurred over a long period (12-weeks if not longer) and I spent lots of time researching and treating each symptom. I removed all 3 fish from from the pond when I noticed his pop-eye, placing the 2 fish in good health into the new tank and isolated the sick fish until his eye healed, he stopped swimming upside down and his general health appeared OK. After placing him in the tank with my two other fish, I had to remove him 2-weeks later because of dropsy, and it was downhill with the remaining symptoms from there. I undertake weekly water changes of 25% and added some tonic salt to the tank last week as I noticed that one of the fish was zoomin down towards the gravel to itch its side. I didn't want to do anything more drastic as I can't see any visible parasites, ie. no white spot and no visible hooks or worms. Are these all related??? Am loving my fish since bringing them inside, originally they didn't seem to like the tank but now when I sit and watch they come over and pace back and forth to say hello! Incidentially I also noticed that there is an green algae like appearance growing on the glass in my tank - have posted a question in the cold water forum and am receiving lots of responses to that. Any advice would be most appreciated.
  8. Would love some advice please. This evening I noticed mould-type patches scattered around the glass in my tank. The tank is 160 litres, cold water, has a filter, live plants and is home to two lovely goldfish (although I'm still a little confused about specifically what type). The tank sits just below the windowsill (ie. not windowsill height) in a bedroom. I have had the tank for approxiately 8 weeks, although the fish much longer - they were originally in an outdoor pond. I'm hoping the mould doesn't have anything to do with a sick fish that recently died? I suspect my treasured fish died of TB after doing lots of research re each symptom as they presented (pop-eye, swimming upside down, dropsy, slack broken looking tail, blood spots or ulcers on body and finally seizures - this occurred over a 12-week period and I spent lots of time researching and treating each symptom). After placing him in the tank with my two other fish, I had to remove him 2-weeks later because of dropsy, and it was downhill from there. Back to the tank, I undertake weekly water changes of 25% and added some tonic salt to the tank last week as I noticed that one of the fish was zoomin down towards the gravel to itch its side. I didn't want to do anything more drastic as I can't see any visible parasites, ie. no white spot and no visible hooks or worms. Are these all related??? Am loving my fish since bringing them inside, originally they didn't seem to like the tank but now when I sit and watch they come over and pace back and forth to say hello Any advice would be most appreciated :bounce:
