Is it safe to put a small whiptail in my community tank?
Lesta3474 replied to js's topic in Freshwater
Sorry to hijack, just want to know if the plant in the tank is a Water Sprite? Cheers! -
 that might not be such a good idea. It will mean that I will have to fake not being able to see the computer screen.. which means then that i can't really work. Unless my dog can work for me?

I think this is a question that probably plagues alot of dog lovers out there. How does one manage to have dog and yet work full time. I really really like dogs.. esp German Shepherd and have always wanted one. But the idea of leaving him at home while I'm at work just does not cut it. It is as if I have to win lotto and quit my job before I can have one. Anyone out there in the same situation? These dogs are just so damn gorgeous and I don't think they deserve to be kept alone at home for the whole day. Its too bad I can't bring them to work. I work in an IT company and I don think dogs are allowed in the office area.

Rotational Inertia - Any Physics Gurus out there?
Lesta3474 replied to Lesta3474's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Righto thanks for that. I'm just trying to look at it at every angle possible before I blow money on wheels. From what I can read on the internet, 1 pound reduced in the rotational weight is roughly 3-4 pounds of the car''s static weight and that every 10lbs reduced in static weight = 1 HP gain... mulitply that by 4 wheels and it would be a significant increase? So if I were to go for the same wheel size but lighter wheels, I'd be reducing 2kgs or 4.5lbs of weight on each wheel. 4.5lbs X 4 wheels X 4 = 72 lbs. This is 7.2 HP gain so I think its worth it? Then again you can't believe everything you read on the internet. If I went 18's then rotational inertia plays a big part? Its all so confusing to me. :-? Probably the reason why I was interested in the calculations. Thanks again Ira! -
Rotational Inertia - Any Physics Gurus out there?
Lesta3474 posted a topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Which is easier to spin? A 17 inch diameter wheel weighing 9.6 KG vs a 18 inch diameter wheel weighing 8.7? The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of upgrading my car to light weight racing wheels but not sure if I should bump up to 18 inch but still be lighter then my present wheels. If its gona reduce performance, then I'll go for the 17 inch racing wheels which weight 7.7 kgs. Anyone can shed any light on the calculations involved regarding rotational inertia? -
Engine Mods on a SPEC S Nissan Silvia
Lesta3474 replied to Lesta3474's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Is turbo charging a Spec S safe? What about Supercharging.. in any case.. doing force induction on an engine that was not made for it to begin with.. isn't that bad? I guess i could run lower boost since the compression on the SR20DE is much higher then the turbo version? Does that mean less turbo lag as well? Maybe I'm being alil unrealistic about the HP gain... will 5-10 hp gain be even noticeable though? Oh, and how much HP gain if i changed the Intake and exhaust flows? lol sorry about all the questions... As far as engine mods go.. I'm still very green! -
Engine Mods on a SPEC S Nissan Silvia
Lesta3474 replied to Lesta3474's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Lol! I have a learner license on a motorbike. Bought a 150cc bike during Jun and been taking it to work until my old car broke down so thats why i got the Nissan Silvia (been eyeing one for a long time now). Because of the bloody learner restrictions (which i think is bloody rediculous) I can't go out and by a GSXR or a YZF or Ninja etc. Pretty keen on a 750 GSXR 08. I mean, I've plenty of experience on bikes.. just that the process of getting a license here meant i had to go through the same procedure as a 16 year old (is that the age restriction)! Anyway, back to the car... Its a N/A car and I don push the car too hard as to prolong the lifespan (Don see the point pushing the car hard on public roads). Been thinking about suspensions as well but engine is more on getting the acceleration back to how it was.. or maybe slightly better. BTW: I don like drag racing.. more of a circuit guy. No offense to all the Drag racers out there. -
Hi Guys, Just want to know if engine modification on a Nissan Silvia Spec S will harm the lifespan of the engine? I was looking into things like the exhaust manifold... Cold Air Intake... things that will not restrict the airflow. Not sure about bolt on headers and what not.. all I want is an extra 20 - 40 gain in HP (anything more will be a bonus) so that my new Wheels done feel so sluggish when compared to the stock wheels. Any input will be much appreciated!

Yep I passed him the keys to the car today. Got him to install a couple of extras in the car like aftermarket gearknobs, handbrakes, pedals etc. I figured if anything were to happen to the car then he'd be responsible. Thanks again guys!

I think I'll tell him that I'm not comfortable with him taking my car. At the end of the day... its my car right? Plus insurance and crap like that.. too much of a worry and I cannot work as well. Thanks guys!

Quote from Nissansilvia.co.nz: It could be the balancing - but I wouldn't discount the hub ring. What he's talking about is hub centric ring. The center of your hub sticks out ~10mm and has a shoulder for the rim to rest on. The rim has a hole here. The size of this is not standardized, so aftermarket rims are generally larger and require an adapter to make it fit snugly over the center of the hub. This is what he is talking about. A rim should center on the hub, then the wheel nuts put on to hold the rim in place. The wheel nuts should not be relied upon to center the wheel. When the wheel is bolted up it is the tension on the studs (and the friction between the back face of the rim and hub) that holds the wheel there, neither the studs or the hub center should be 'taking the weight'. It's not unheard of to have the wheel not center properly without the hub ring - that's why they have the things in the first place. If he's from a professional business and he doesn't look slimy I'd trust him. I'd take the car to them though. At the end of the day he warned you there may be an issue, there is, and he's trying to fix it. Don't think its a spacer so should be alright? Anyway, I think I'll use the insurance company excuse... And probably consult my friend who brought me to the guy in the first place. Really don't like someone else driving my car... especially since I just bought it! Thanks guys for the reply.

Hi Guys, I posted the message below on NissanSilvia.co.nz but wanted to get more opinions and advice from people with more experience on this. Have a read. All comments and advice welcomed! thankS! New to the modifying business. Last Friday, a fren of mine managed to get a pretty good deal on a set of 17inch SpeedyWheels Racespec wheels... looks awesome and so drove in at lunch time and had the wheels fitted. There is this ring that the store owner had to put on the hub before fitting the wheel and he told me that the ring was a loose fit... and there may be a possiblity that the steering wheel will vibrate at high speed.. .he told me that this is nothing to worry about and chance are that it won't happen at all. Unfortunately the steering wheel is vibrating! So called up the guy and he told me that he wants to pick up my car (Nissan S15.. I just got it for 2 weeks now) and refitted the ring and then test drive it so that there is no problems. But the idea of someone that I barely know... (met the dude for only 1 hour on friday) and now he wants to take my car.. and bring it for a test drive! It just doesn't seem right. Anyone have experience here? Is this normal procedure? Am i just suffering from new car syndrome or is my unwillingness to let someone else drive my car valid? What should i do?

Btw guys, [email protected] replied stating that they "believe" that it is 95 and turbo needs 98. Although the important thing to note here is that they believe... :-?

Thanks guys for the very informative debate not only on fuel type and octane rating but different types of cars, engines and their performances... etc. I think from all that has been said.. (on this thread and on the other one at nissansilvia.co.nz) I will definitely not go for 91. I love my car... (although my girlfriend does not approve.. well sometimes ) ... i treat it like my second wife.. and so nothing but the best.. and if 95 or 98 will be better for it then yeah.. thats what I'll go for. Thanks again! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Fair enough. I'll try 98 after the 95 runs out. Its currently at 1/4 so nearly there. I hope I've not done something bad to the engine.
