Tank is about 600L, will get a TDS tomorrow.

Friend has a freshwater community tank but is having death after death recently. Fish look pale and have no eyes when dead. Ammonia, phosphate, nitrite and nitrate are all good, tested with new test kits. Water is from 5 stage RO with recent membrane. Have used furan 2, now running formalin, always runs U.V. Of the fish I can remember are; large ghost knife, bosemanies (?) and sharks. Last fish added was a ~12cm polo shark. Any ideas??

I've got a neon dwarf gouarami with a fleshy spot at the begining of his top fin, its about 2mm diameter. Its still quite pink, he's eating fine and moving around fine. Anyone know what this could possibly be? He was being fed by someone else for a couple of weeks while I was away and they overfed him. He's in a tank with a female neon dwarf gourami, a small pleco, dwarf chain loach, 5 rummy nose and 2 butterfly cichlids. I've got no idea whether any of that makes a difference.

Hi guys, I'm about to get some live rock, and I'm going to 'cook' it till January 08, when I set up the tank. I'm getting the rock now because I got a super sweet deal on it. Anyway just wondering what do I need to have running in the tank for it to cook? e.g. powerhead, filter, skimmer, heater?? Cheers

Hi Guys, I've seen these bird nose wrasse in a couple of LFS, I think they look pretty cool and was looking at possible getting one in my new setup. But I've heard they eat anything and everything. Anyone got any experience with these??

Ok, I'm fine with my stuff in my tank. I've just been informed my cannister filter is set up for marine, with phosphate and nitrate reducing media instead of the standard stuff.

Hi There, I'm thinking of building a sump for my 230L 4ft tank. What size sump tank should I use and what rating return pump would be appropriate? Does anybody use weir's? Would be cool if I can avoid drilling the tank. Also what filtration media should I put in the sump?? I've seen ones with just some filter wool, and others with complete living organisms. Apart from hiding skimmers and heaters, is it really that beneficial? Thanks

Hi Guys I have recently been converted to reef. I bought a tank my LFS was using for displaying soft coral. Its a 4ft 240L, came with two pumps and a powerhead thing, a skimmer, a JEBO 819 cannister, 2x4ft Aquaone 2 bulb flourescents with 2 blue and 2 white, heater, stand, plumbing etc. I've cleaned everything up and looking at setting it up for Feb 2008 with basic corals and fish. I have a small 30L tank with basic hang on filter and heater for a hospital/quarantine tank. Picked up the tank in Rotorua but I live in Auckland. I'm seriously looking at getting rid of the cannister and having a sump. Really appreciate the help you guys give on here, CHEERS!

Ok, I'm going to start off with just soft corals. What about invertebrates? Like anemone's etc, do they need anything special?

What's Di?? Can I purify the water the tropical way, adding chemicals? This cannister filter business is turning out to be more of a problem than I first thought. The tank I bought had been running for two years with the cannister filter, are you sure I shouldn't use it? Cheers

O and aparantly I should only use RO filtered water, is there any alternatives?? Cheers

Hi, I'm going to set up a marine tank in the near future, I've got the tank, pumps, filter, skimmer, lights, etc. I've read its good to put artic blue lights on 30-60mins before and after the white light to replicate dawn and dusk, does anybody do this? Does it benefit the coral? Also hows a good idea to form a reef stand to sit live rocks on? what can I make it out of? Is an undergravel filter a good idea? I've got a 30L tank with heater and basic tropical filter system, could I use this as a hospital/qaurrantine tank?? My filter is a Jebo 819, its got several different media, what order should they go in? Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

Hi Guys, I've got an AR980 and all my tests are reading fine, I got a UV filter due to high phosphates. Now I'm getting green spots of algae on the glass and broad leaf plants, its hard to scratch off. Can anyone help me out??

Aparantly wonderworld pet store in Rotorua is getting some dwarf puffers, he's already got a black spot puffer.
