    Suddenly sick???

it is an unusual mix but up until now everyone has been perfectly happy with a temp of 28-29 degrees and PH of 6.4 to 6.6... there is one of those black plastic air tube thingees in there... and all their food sinks somewhat so noone really eats from the surface... could have been their time i guess?? but unusual to have 2 do the same thing... ill just have to keep an eye on them

    Suddenly sick???

Theres always something going on when you have 13 tanks in your house!.... Last night in our display tank which has Discus, gouramis, neons, kribs, pleco, a rainbow fish, black widows, penguin tetras, zebra danios, clown loaches and a red tailed shark in it... (breathe) had an unfortunate event... the rainbow fish just decided to loose all boyancy and swim upsidedown still alive and breathing but upside down??? This morning my beloved male Krib was doing it too!! and my young female krib was looking like she was heading for that trend also they all went straight to quarantine while we figure out whats up!! Our thoughts are that we are feeding our Discus (not that we can help who gets what food in this tank) Colour bits and have only been for a week... all the fish love it... is the new dry food they are getting too much for their little digestive systems??? are they getting bloated and infected from it?? I have 0 amonia, soft water and a PH of 6.4, temp is 29 degrees... I dont want to loose any (more) fish especially my discus... Any ideas??
  5. Thanks everyone for your help... we will try your ideas and keep you updated on how it goes
  6. relatively new for the fish that are in it yes... sure will try that... we are just worried that the tank is still toxic and thats why the fish are now acting strangely... thats why we still want to use ammolock... however if some of them can breed in it it musnt be too bad... we do alot of frequent water changes and fairly decent ones too... the readings are still high... do you think its the chemicals giving us a false reading??
  7. Hey guys would appreciate any tips please!! We have a 6ft 550L freshwater tropical tank, currently houses 2 adult oscars, 2 convists who have just bred (hundreds of squigglies in their cave), 1 silver shark, 3 silver dollars, 1 large pleco, 1 small pacu and one sevrum. tank has been established this way for a few weeks now, has a Fluval FX5 filter system and gets frequent water changes. HOWEVER!!... amonia is at 2-4 currently and has been for some time... PH is approx 6.4 and water is at the high end of soft. Have been using ammolock and amrid stones to no avail... the oscars are now looking a little sad (clamped fins and lethargic). we dont want them to die... why wont our amonia level drop?????

Hello, with over 7 years of keeping tropical fish we only find out about this place now!... We have a 3ft and 6ft freshwater tropical tank, just beginning to try our hand at breeding, have 10 further small 1-2ft tanks for breeding. We have many fish of various varieties and love each one of them as part of the family!!
