  1. Well - the 2400 is ordered - so should have it in tomorrow. I'll let you know if it is a flop. But the extra flow should be a good thing.!!!!
  2. Hi Caryl - Hang on to that one thanks!!!!! I went into Jansens to return one that they had sold that was wrong. Originally they said they had no other models, but one of the helpful staff said he had seen one lying around that fitted the description. Sure enough after a few minutes he came out with one for a 304 that looks identical to the one needed. When I get home I'll try it in the 404 and see if it is the same part, if not I will buy your one thanks. Also decided to bump up filtration and add a Aqua One 2400. The Fluval 404 will become the backup unit used on another tank. The CF2400 are a damn good price at $260, has any one been bitten by them or are they ok?
  3. Your a good person Zoban - despite what everyone says ) lol Thanks for that, i was hunting around on net looking, but didnt come across that site. I'll order it in pronto unless someone local comes up with one closer to home. Thanks again.
  4. Hi there, Does anyone know who may have an Impeller for an older Fluval 404. It is the slimmer impeller with the curved blades, not the straight blade model that is in the late model 404's and 405's Called Jansens and Hollywood and both dont have any and Hagen agent says they are no longer available. So I am looking for any old stock or overseas supplier I guess???

    Sand..

Ever tried keeping a white shirt clean? the whiter the sand the more the poop, plant matter etc will make it look messy. That is unless you arent putting plants in and can hoover the sand regularly to remove mess. Salt is an issue if the fish are not keen on brackish(salty) water. Mollies etc would love it. Just rinse and do the pattented "taste test" to see how salty it is after a few rinses. Also found that Silicon Sand used in Bead Blasting isnt too crash hot as it is soooooo fine.
  6. Good hunting and fishing store there!!!!
  7. Go to Plaster Systems for big sheets - as they use them on Insulclad homes. Payless and Plastic box generally only have the 100mm Thick or thicker sheets (I went in to local ones a few weeks back).
  8. I have used both Bomb and Soda Stream. The bomb was very effective, but mesy and needed to be recharged often. Sodastream with the 885g bottle is running like a dream. I dont get any leaks when re-fitting bottle.
  9. I tried that - no how do I cut the willow tree down that is growing in there? :bounce:
  10. It needs to be a constant supply of carbon. You best off making a coke bottle filled with 3 tsp bakers yeast, 1/4 cup sugar and 500ml water. drill a hole in bottle cap and silicon in a silicon hose. Run this into another 300 to 600ml coke bottle. drill two holes in this, glue in the hose just made, then another hose that will go to a stone in the tank. This second bottle is just to ensure no yeast mix ends up in the tank i.e. a safety overflow. Every two to three weeks you can replace the yeast/sugar/water mix.
  11. I run a 855g Sodastream CO2 bottle with reg and needle valve - appx 3 bubbles a sec in 500l tank - growth is brilliant. Initially I have low light so the co2 was needed to get the tank growing, but after adding 4 more 40W tubes , it is virtually a triffid zone.!!!! If you run a sodastream bottle, then look for the Alco2jet bottle that comes in the 100l unit. It gives long life between fills and most fire extinguisher fillers will fill them for you (Dont tell Soda Stream)
  12. Does sound most likely. But I like my idea for originality -
  13. Lol - Was refering to the fact that the clown loach in the tank would eat snail smaller than an applesnail, not the consumption rate of an apple snail on plants..
  14. http://www.boatsnz.co.nz/listings/sick_silver_shark.jpg Try using some melafix in the tank. It will aid most problems is it is damage to the fish. Just pull out the charcoal from the filter first or put the fish into a hospital tank. PM me if you want and you can send the photo - I can list uu on a website here and you can link into it.
