  1. Ok, does anyone have any suggestions for heaters? i.e brand etc...
  2. Hey all, I was just wondering if people could give me an idea on how much extra power they pay for with their tropical setup? I have a 120l coldwater tank and was thinking about switching to tropical and power is the one thing that concerns me. Thanks Jimbo
  3. Hey all, To cut a long story short I now have a 120L Coldwater tank with 18 WCMM, 2 comets, blackmoor, shubunkin and calico fantail (Im moving the WCMM out when the goldfish get too big). Anyway i recently go a plant (no idea what sort) as a suggestion from my local pet store in order to use up my store credit. It did well (at least to me) for a week so i got a few more and they all are looking ok except near the base where the leaves are turning yellow and some are falling off. Should i be doing anything extra to help the plants along? Thanks Jimbo
  4. Hi all (again) Im looking at getting bigger tank plus stand setup and after looking around at some tanks there are a couple that i quite like. The major difference between the two are dimensions and my question is: Is there a more important dimension (LWH) to be considered when buying a tank? At the moment i have a 60x30x30 tank and the dimensions of the tanks im looking at getting are L75 x W40 x H45cm and 62x38x72H. As you can see the second tank is considerably higher then the other, does this matter or will the fish not really care too much? For reference the second tank can be found here: http://www.cyberpets.co.nz/digicart/fus ... N=67480429 Thanks Jimbo
  5. Hi all, Ive noticed alot of the members on here who have planted tanks. I was just wondering what extra care/ precautions do you have to take to have live plants in your tank? Also, do those of you who have planted tanks do gravel cleaning? It seems to me like you wouldn't be able to do that anymore for fear of uprooting the plants. Thanks, Jimbo
  6. thanks for all the replys. I had a problem with nitrate (?) a week ago when i had some water tested and so ive been putting a capful in everyday (pet store directions) and then 5 caps every water change of which im doing 2 a week at the moment. My water has cleared up quite nicely and im guessing it would be safe to just put some in every water change? Im new at this so im still trying to get my head around everything.
  7. Hi all, I am using cycle regularly and find that i have to buy a new bottle every 2 weeks or less. Does anyone know of a place (store or online) where you can buy cycle for relatively cheap? At the moment i pay anywhere between $18 - 20. Thanks
  8. it is approximately 60l and 60cmL 30W 30H I think i have one pleco and one bristlenose. I did cycle the tank before i put the fish but i didnt put them in all at once, the rams only went in a week ago and the tiger barbs went in today. I know my tank is small for all those fellas but im upgrading my tank to approx 80-85L in a few weeks.
  9. Hi all, My name is James and i just got into tropical fish keeping a month ago. At the moment I have 3 blue rams, 5 cardinal tetras, 4 peppered cory's, 2 plecos and 6 tiger barbs (The barbs are seperated for the moment though). Im havinga great time with the fish and watching them is a pleasure. For my first question: I am feeding the cory's sinking pellets but when I feed them the blue rams eat those pellets instead of the flakes i give them and im worried the cory's arnt getting enough to eat. Is there anything i can do about this or should i just let it be? Secondly, at the moment i have just an undergravel filter going and just wanted to know what parts of it i have to clean and how often? I could go to the store i bought it from and ask but i cant go back for a couple of days so ill see what you all have to say. Thats all from me, thanks
