  1. Hi there, have been browsing forums and haven't come across exactly our problem - although from what I've read I suspect it's over zealous cleaning of the filter (Fluval Canister 204) - but! We woke up this morning to one dead fish and the tank was cloudy cloudy cloudy. We haven't seen this before! Have done a 50% water change this evening and it looks possibly marginally better. Should we just do water changes every couple of days and it will come right? Or do we need to get some "stuff" from the shop?! Any suggestions/advice gratefully appreciated
  2. Thanks for the welcomes....everything is doing great in our tank! So great we even have a baby neon tetra!!! Quite funny....all that panic and the fish must have been looking to spawn, not looking for somewhere quiet to die!
  3. Hey there! We been away on hols and everything is all good in our tank! (Thanks for asking MCT!) Infact things must have been exceptional!!! My last hysterical posting re possible sick tetra, must have been a pregnant tetra!!!! I'm so glad we couldn't catch her!!! We have just noticed a little 6mm tetra look alike (not blue/red yet, but same shape), swimming about under the driftwood and at the back in some grassy plant!!! ...the sole survivor of a tetra spawning!!!! Wow!!! We are sooooooo excited!!!! :bounce: It is soooo cute!!! :bounce: All the others must have been eaten I guess ....does anyone have any advice on what we should do??? - i.e just let him be, he's got this far.....or put him in a closed off part of the tank so he can get bigger???? Will he be okay since there is only one??? Wow!!! ....Also...we have a female platy whom we suspect is pregnant as her belly has got quite swollen...does anyone know the gestation period? I have had a lot of trouble finding this out...(books/net)....Thanks in advance for any advice and a fishie evening to you all!!!
  4. I'm real glad we've found this site too.... the fish all seem happy as today, yah! We've got a fishsitter for the next week so hope all goes well for him! Catchya lata
  5. I'm calm again!!! Thanks for your advice...you guys are real helpful, I think it's great! Well, I'm glad that we didn't get him out of the tank last night, coz this morning the little guy is back swimming normally.....still got a swollen belly tho, so maybe it/she is carrying eggs!! We had the tank for 8 days before we put fish in...our LFS said this ok...but on further reading possibly not  ....we have got a Fluval 240 filter which seems pretty good....and we have done 25% water changes every 7 days and added Stress Zyme and Stress Coat and have been hoping that the we don't kill the little critters coz the tank prolly hasn't cycled yet....so yeah! Our LFS said not to worry to much about testing the water as you can get too carried away with creating "perfect conditions"...maybe this is not the best advice?? We want to get the little catfish a couple of buddies as I've read they shouldn't be by themselves, but am wondering if it is wise to get them now, or wait a few more weeks to be sure the tank is cycled/settled....anyway thanks again
  6. Cheers for that, a mission indeed!...we thinking we give it a rest now and go and buy another net or two 2moro and hopefully the whole tank wont be dead when we wakeup!!
  7. Hi there We've had our tank for 31/2 weeks (and 4 hours!! ha ha) and this is the first time I've joined any forum, so my lingo may not be forumish!! I have been looking at this site since we got our tank and have learned quite a bit!! Thanks for that We love our new hobbie and have a 160l community tank with 10 neon tetras, 3 platies (one I think is pregnant, I haven't managed to find the gestation period for these, just that they can "store" sperm) and 1 bronze catfish. We hope to get some more soon!! However...one of our neon's is swimming about head down and looks a little swollen....after reading just about every forum on sick neon's I have noticed it has a white pimple just below its lip...yikes TB I'm thinking, so we are trying to get it OUT of the tank!!! We have been trying on and off for over an hour (We have a net)!! Can we do it? No!!!! We (well, I) am also getting worried that we might be unduly stressing the other fish...So, after this long winded explanation....does anyone out there have a surefire way of catching the fish??? Thanks so much to anyone who has some advice!!
