It has four legs. By solid core thingy I was refering to a solid core door :lol: I guess I mean the opposite of MDF or ply etc... I do not know what type of wood it would be. I will also get some brackets of sorts to hold the tank against the wall etc... earthquake proofing.

It will be against a load bearing wall yes. I imagine it is better for the tank to run perpendicular to the joists? If it is not there is just as good a place to put it running parallelw ith the joist? I have seen the tank already and has appropriate spacing for cleaning/maintenance. It will be 2m tall so the top tank is getting on the high side but I am not wanting as a pure breeding setup to churn out fry upon fry but would like it as a display tank that allows me to keep the fish at different stages of their lives. Hi, Looking at buying a breeding type setup with three stacked tanks. Each tank is around 250L I am at a very rough guess, guessing that all up would be close to 750Kg. Question I have is would a wooden floor hold it up. I would like to have it sitting on a nice piece of solid core wood measuring around 145cm by 60cm by 4cm - to try help spread the load. Floor joists are spaced 360mmm centre to centre and are 50mm by 140mm. Would the floor have any chance at holding the weight? I know measurements are all rough figures but if it gets to the point where I need exact figures to work it out then that probably means that it is too close to call whether it is safe enough or not. yea perspex does cost alot in. But like mentioned I have a few large sheets. 3 (170cm by 62cm) 2 (100cm by 97cm) 1 (66cm by 96cm) and yea the glue is just perspex shaving with chloroform (which we also have) and we even have a centrafuge to mix it all good and proper. So was jus seeing if i could make a nice tank with it all. And the issue was just having is cutting it all in right angles and same lenghts etc..... i think i will ave to give the white pages a raid on monday to see if someone can get them up

Hello all, i have a few large sheets of perspex which im wanting to use to make a tank. 1) does anyone have a conversion thing like with glass, that tells you what the minimum thickness should be for a certain height 2) and secondly does anyone know if it is possible for me to take the sheets somewhere where i can get them cut to exact dimensions, as am having a hard time cutting them at dead right angles thanks

Hello weired thing going on. Have a parrot cichlid with something on/in its nostrile. I think he may have swam into something and nocked his nose as it first started with like brusing/blood under the skin around its nostrile, it has since slowly developed into a slight bump with like a mucass/pus coming out of its nostrile. It reminds me of an absces i once saw on a rabbit. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be or how to treat it?

yea its got a side grill, so has small slots so water can exchange through, so that might be whats happened, anyhoo ive taken the loaches out to see what happens now

i had 29 kenyi fry (still with sack things), in a floating hatchery while i make up a divider for the 4foot tank. And i put my 4loaches in that same tank and my 6 apple snails in that same tank today. So go away doing other stuff come back and.............. now i have 11fry left!!!!!!!!!!! i ahve no idea whats happend? So im wondering if the loaches could have jumped into the hatchery and had a big meal and then left the crime scene. Is this possible? Which leads me to the next concern, when i let the fry out should i take the loaches out? the loaches are 5-7cm so not very big or could it have been the slow yet deadly snails

good idea, ive only had to introduce small fish into tanks ive had and i guess when putting new adults in its a different story the best i can do is listen to the good advice and also learn from experience, as ive noticed some people have had success with mixing certain fish with others and then you hear of other horror stories. yea the kenyi pair is one to one but recently got a few other mediumish size kenyi so now the male one is spreading his attention.

Sure thing the tank is a 7 1/2 footer (cant forget that extra 15 odd cm's ) its 750L all up. For starters im keen on getting pair of electric yellows and Melanchromis Auratus. And i already have breeding pair of kenyi. I would imagine there would be no problem between those three in terms of hybrids as they are fairly different?
