  1. We have had a golden algae eater in our community tank with no problems, and he does a good job with the algae, I haven't had a problem since we put him in, and he is still doing his job even though he is about 10-15cm's now (we were told he would be less effective once he got that big).
  2. We have kept a fighter in our community tank with no problems, but we were really careful about who we housed him with. We gave our black widow tetra's away because they can nip the fins, and we also avoided the fancy guppies because the male fighters can think they are other fighters and attack them. No problems with our gouramis, neons, xrays, red eyes
  3. I know we are going to have to upgadre again when the fish get bigger (another excuse to get another tank! yippee) but for the moment they are still pretty small and all have lots of swimming room. I was thinking thatI was going to have to go down the external cannister route, into the "serious" filters. I guess I am off the LFS to investigate. Thanks for all your help..I have a clearer idea of what I am looking for now Alex
  4. I just wondered if anyone had a suggestion re: an appropriate fileter for my goldfish tank. Its 150l and has 8 little monsters in it. Our current filtration from the smaller tank doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard. We have a Shark A600 + a small external filter (can't remember specs) which were sufficient filtration before we moved into the big tank - we had less fish then too. So yeah, any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in advance, Alex
  5. If you don't mind using chemicals in your tank, then bio chem zorb gets rid of it really well.
  6. Ohhh maybe I will try this for the tank I am getting for christmas...do you think I will able able to achieve the same kind of thing with a cold water tank as opposed to the tropical? I know I can get the plant varieties to make it interesting....
  7. I was told that you could have as many girls in with the male as you want, as long as you don't have 2 males in together. And i forgot to say we have 6 goldfish - 3 fantails, a blackmoor, a shubunkin and a comet - hence us needing a bigger tank to house them and they are gonna grow too big for this one very quickly I feel! I will post pics of all tanks when they are set up
  8. Hi, I have just recently stumbled across this site, and am looking forward to having knowledgeable people to ask my stupid questions to. We currently have 2 tanks - an 100l tank that houses our gourami's, neons, red eye's, x-ray's, CAE and our betta. We also have a 38l cold-water tank for our goldfish. We are getting a new tank at xmas (3 ft) for our goldfish, and will be rehoming the betta into the 38l tank with some girlies we are going to purchase for him. I look forward to sharing experiences with everyone Alex
