  1. Thanks all for your feed back. I am hoping the disciplines in raising and breeding Discus will put me in good stead with marines. I think I'll go without initially and use our tap water in conjunction with phosphate removing product. If I'm not happy with the results I'll review my decision. Cheers
  2. Hi Im looking at getting into Marines after keeping discus for ages. I'm doing heaps of research but am getting various opinions as to wether RODI units are required for Chch water when doing water changes & top ups for marines. I see a few on this site are from Chch-what do you do please.
  3. Hi TGWH yes thats probably my favourite- its a Red Melon, some might say a yellow faced Red Melon. Nice to know I may have contributed to your wifes interest in ..the hobby or Discus Cheers
  4. Thanks -yes it is often difficult getting good Discus down here. I'm lucky I get to Auckland/ North Island a bit and either courier or bring them on the plane with me.
  5. Hi I wouldnt worry too much , adult Discus can and often do go on hunger strikes while they settle in. They can go for weeks without eating. The best thing you can do is ensure that you keep the water changes up and not over feed. Garry
  6. Hi I'll try these images Now thats better Cheers Garry
  7. Thanks Ron-a few of them were from you. I will try another size option
  8. Bother images are not big enough -Oh well you get the idea Cheers Garry

  10. Hey Ronman, those spots look fantastic -now get busy , work your magic and provide us with some young ones to purchase  By the way BD's have settled in and doin fine. Thanks
  11. Thanks, yes I think I'll pull it out and give it another series of cleaning just to make sure, before the fish go in. Cheers
  12. Hi Sharn, sort of, but definitely hairy clear to white fuzz look to it about 1mm high in about 5 or 6 places along the wood. When you touch it , it just disintigrates ???
  13. Yes, I'm looking at putting BN's in next week and was sort of thinking that maybe they would clean it up without harming them.
  14. I found this amazing log / driftwood on the river bank and due to it being quite long proceeded to poor boiling water over it once a day every day for 2 weeks, then scrubbed it with diluted bleach solution for a few days and rinsed thoroughly. Its in my 180 g tank now however it has developed this white fuzz type fungus in some places along its side. Does it need more treatment, could the fungus be harmful ? any ideas? I'm doing a fishless cycle at present.
