Yes, there are two mentions of heater cables in her book (p 51 and p 140). She states that substrate heating cables increase circulation and therefore reduces the negative impact of allelochemicals, the toxic substances given off by some plants to inhibit the growth of competitive species. She says they: "continuously 'wash' the substrate and may prevent substrate poisoning". However, it seems she sees them as usually part of a hi-tech system, rather than her natural aquarium system.
The book is a great read if you want to set up a natural tank. It is one of the few based on scientific research and therefore also of interest if you are a hi-tech enthusiast.
