    • With a long and tubular highly flexible body and small head and eyes with tubular nostrils the Spotted eel is an olive green or brownish colour and is distinctly spotty with darker markings.

      Females may reach 1.65 metres in length while males reach 65cm.

    • Scientific Name: Anguilla reinhardtii
    • Habitat: North Island only, mostly northern half, in rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands
    • Threatened Species: Recent probably self-introduction from Australia or nearby
    • Marine Stage: Yes
