  • Torrentfish

    • The Torrentfish has a very stiff and solid, yet streamlined body with varying colouration; grey, salt and pepper or browny-orange.  The head is very tapered in profile and wide based, with the jaw undercut and eyes high set.  Commonly reaches 10 - 12cm in length and occasionally up to 20cm.

       

    • Scientific Name: Cheimarrichthys fosteri
    • Habitat: Widely found throughout NZ the Torrentfish lives in very fast flowing, shallow water with highly mobile gravel substrate
    • Tank Age/Maturity: Minimum recommended tank size footprint of 120cm x 60cm.
    • Threatened Species: N/A
    • Special Requirements: Need a fast flowing stream biotope
