Fishie123 Posted July 19, 2014 Report Share Posted July 19, 2014 Hello Everyone, I was looking at some amazing youtube videos of Argentine Black and White Tegu, and was wondering would it cost a lot to import them into New Zealand? I have tried to do some research on tegu on Google using the feature "Location: New Zealand" I haven't found anything helpful so far, so I decided to ask the forum. What are the risk of importing them into New Zealand, how much would it cost to import them, do I have to import more then one tegu or can I just import one tegu. Do I have to go through a importer to get the tegu? I have more questions to ask, but I think the question I have listed are the main one I could think of, any other helpful information is welcome, maybe someone on the forums owns a tegu could message me. cuviceps Posted July 20, 2014 Report Share Posted July 20, 2014 I believe so but not 100% sure, I believe they have to be already in the country & under no circumstances are we allowed to import any reptiles even those on the list. How long does it take to get a permit to house a New Zealand native gecko, and what are the usually procedures? reuben.a Posted July 20, 2014 Report Share Posted July 20, 2014 doc took bloody ages to get back with my permit but was well worth it. well when i say ages i mean a few months but when you are waiting for a reply its feels like forever. some people i know got a reply within a week and others longer than myself so after a couple of weeks id give them a ring just as a reminder. so to get it, contact your local doc and tell them you are interested in keeping native geckos and they will send you links to apply for permit or send you a hard copy if youd rather that. also join the new zealand herpetological society - not just the forum but become a paid member and you get magazines etc for free aswell as it unlocks all the usefull parts of the forum. good luck and unfortunately the water dragons are the largest lizards allowed privately in nz. Sorry but they are in private people collections but yes they are very hard to get as there are so few here. I have not seen or heard of any for sale for a few years . There is a cheap baby beardie on trade me with an injured foot. Mack Snow, High Yellow and Normal are the only strains somewhat common.
