Ahh, useful information. Thanks. Maybe I should stop calling them 'koi' then, though I'm trying to reproduce what they seem to call Koi Tuxedo Guppy overseas, though there is some white still visible on the photo, which hopefully I can add here.

Hmm, nope, not in that format. I'll work on it.

Yep - but don't forget that the Koi expression is not only defined by localized red traits. It also needs the trait LE (Phil Shaddock - leucophore body) which makes up the white body. And as you stated before ("...the colour is more orangey-red"), this is already missing in your fish. Switching to Albino will help but LE is still required for the original look as leucophores reflect all the light back in a scattered way, which makes up the dull white body without the metallic shine as we know it from Full White Platinums.
That's why I usually go for a totally unrelated, very visible, dominant trait in the initial females to single out any X that is not from the original strain.

Colour_genes reacted to Caryl in Mass algae problem!
If you had used the old filter media as well you probably would not have had this problem. The tank is effectively re-cycling and the algae has nothing to compete with it, hence the green bloom.
See if you can find some live daphnia (stock ponds are a great place to look if you know anyone with a farm or lifesyle block, or someone with a garden pond). The daphnia will clear it up overnight but you might need to temporarily remove the neons as they will eat the daphnia.
Turn the lights off and cover the tank to totally block any light for 3 or 4 days. The fish won't mind but the algae need light to photosynthesise. After 3 or 4 days, siphon the gravel well doing about 50 - 75% water change to get rid of dead algae so it doesn't pollute the tank.
Green water looks terrible but rest assured it is harmless to the fish.

    Breeding Chocolate Fish
    Cocoa pisces (deliscioso)
I recently managed to acquire a trio of Chocolate fish to try breeding with,
A melanistic male, a normal female and an albino female.

    Breeding Tank parameters.
    Minimum size 100 litres
Temperature under 18 centigrade otherwise they get soft and lethargic.
    PH neutral to soft.
I used chocolate sprinkles as substrate and fed them Cadbury Flake food to condition them for breeding.
These fish usually spawn in caves laying a large egg mass which the male guards for7 days before they hatch.
    Egg mass.

Once the fry hatch I remove the parents just in case they are tempted to eat them.
    Picture of newly hatched fry.

I feed the fry fine particles of food, this is easily achieved by grating a chocolate bar on a kitchen grater.

I hope this article helps you achieve breeding these sweet fish.
    Fry ready for sale.

Finally got my tanks up and running this weekend. Breeding pair moved to the top and hopefully try raising some fry in the bottom sometime in the near future. Angels have been laying eggs every 8 days so hopefully the moved didn't disturb them too much.

I don't have any pics atm, but hoping to move the tank into the lounge soon, so I'll see if I can get one when I empty everything out.
I bought 2 of them under the name of 'Mini Moth' catfish  (also called anchor catfish because of their shape), really picky to feed until they adapt, one didn't last more than a month or two, had this one over a year, very small and super camoflaged (looks like a dead leaf at a casual glance). But it's nice to know it's in there, and see it once a week or so.

Colour_genes got a reaction from livingart in Heads Up - pos Sptted/Rio Ucayali Bristlenoses, Chch.
I went into Petstock (general pet store) in Northwoods, Christchurch today for some fish food, and had a quick look in their tanks (as you do!).
They have a tank containing 'Bristlenose $13' - there are at least 5 fish I could see and none of them are your regular, standard BN. Same general shape, possibly slightly more flattened head, black body with small whitish spots/dots, orangey edges & markings on their fins. Couldn't get a photo sorry, but look just like the photos of Rio Ucayali on 'Planet catfish'. The shop assistant checked and said they came from an importer based in the North Is.
I just don't have room for them in my tanks atm, but someone else might like the chance to grab something a bit more exotic than the usual BN?
    Cheers
