I mean the stream that runs out from zoo on the old mill road side of the zoo and runs along/around Seddon Fields.

Try brineshrimp again. Once you get it going it is not hard to do. You may have been using old eggs.

You should be able to - click on edit at the bottom of that particular post, scroll up past your image, edit it and resubmit it. Let me know via message if you can not and I will take a look.
Anyway good job - keep us updated with how they progress.

Heres my thoughts -
Pearl Gourami will get too large as they max out around 12cm in length (they are stunning fish and my favourite gourami).
Harlequins look fabulous in groups.
Rummynose also are great in groups, they may spawn in your tank (they are egg scatterers), mine certainly did but it is not a common occurance.
Black neons are also great in groups, a bit more prone to disease than harlequins and rummynose.
2 GBR's (for the life of me I cant think what they are). Do you mean GBA's - golden blackeyed ancistrus?
So harlequins, rummynose and black neons are all compatible and it depends on whether you want several smaller groups of fish or one larger one. As far as gourami go, there don't - to my recollection - seem to be any mid sized. They either group larger or are the dwarf species, and dwarf species are susceptible to stomach issues. JJwooble on here has bred dwarf honey and is selling her young ones at the moment. Possibly being NZ bred they will be healthier.
If you decide not to go gourami have a look around for another feature fish.

I used to feed the egg yolk mixed with green water. Feed sparingly otherwise you will foul your tank.

I would start feeding them soon or they will all disappear... I have had success with microworms and egg yolk mixture when free swimming. Small brineshrimp are probably best but I have never tried. I followed up with daphnia and newly hatched mosquito larvae when they were a little bigger. I have successfully raised numerous species of Apisto's using the egg yolk and microworm procedure. Good luck.

Barrie sold up and sold the lot to one person, who then split them up and they were never heard of again. Try sending Caserole a pm as he is most definitely still around and interested in killies.

We are about ready to bounce back but still may not have any fish for a bit. People sometimes think that the stress in Christchurch is about the possibility of aftershocks. EQC are experts at making sure you get your share in other ways. After we paid a heap to get the house painted after some weatherboards had to be removed to repair part of the foundation and EQC only took responsibility for the weatherboards on two walls and allowed enough for a quick sand and a spray job. We put out thousands to get the whole place painted so it didn't look so stupid. The paint started blistering off in about 6 months and we have just completed a repaint at double the original cost. EQC have paid about one third of the repaint cost. The stress comes mainly from waiting 3 years for repairs then arguing for about the same time about the repairs. We are one of the many but are still grateful that we are not living in a garage or car like some still are.

I will be updating i'm sure, but magical tank has been sitting in my garage since 11pm last Tuesday while we wait on the lounge flooring to be done! Sooooo frustrating.
Ooopsy! I picked up the lights, bought my partner some dinner to win him over then persuaded him to just go and have a look at the tank...600kms later I came home very happy and organised a truck for a few days later hahaha. Auckland really does have all the good things, but I am sick of travelling and traffic!

Not a huge amount to report.
The tank has gone away for re-sealing and a tidy up and for drilling, as has the sump.
The ATO is now in the cabinet.
I picked up my new Hailea A-500 chiller today from Ronnie at New Pupuke Aquarium Centre. Thanks Ron
Last night I collected another 18kg of Walt Smith rock, bringing the total amount I now have to around 43kg.

Certainly not giving up on this :-)
I will have to see how I go for timing but usually end of year start of year are my quietest periods so might be my best time to try again.

Late 2008 and I picked up an ex-marine tank (450 litres) and stand from Napier. It came with a sump and pvc piping but not being remotely interested in marines at that time and having no knowledge of sumps, I set it up as a planted discus tank. After twelve months of persistent dripping from the pipes going into the sump, the sump was sold off and a FX5 took its place. Discus, followed by Rainbowfish, then Discus again, followed.
Last year hubby and i set up a Red Sea Max C-250. Move on 14 months and the discus/rainbow tank has been emptied and plans are underway for a conversion back to a marine. Many told me this would happen, I should have listened!
The stand is currently being stripped of its varnish - a long, slow and noisy job. The sump design is in the planning, and I have a skimmer and return pump on order.
I will post in this thread as progress is made

I do like the way you have scaped your tank. It looks great.

Adrienne got a reaction from Caryl in Newbie question! ~ Rainbowfish ~
Any fish with 'barb' in its name can cause issues in a tank. I'd go for a group of at least six dwarfs. Rainbows are stunning fish - even dwarf rainbows, once in your home tank will develop colouring far above what you see in a shop situation. Remember to give any tank with rainbows in some open swimming spaces as they do love to zoom along the tank.
They will happily adjust to the pH of your tank. I had boesmani, reds, blues, dwarfs etc and they were fine in lower pH. If you do find you have a pair of them and want them to spawn then would be the time to raise the pH to the optimum level.
