I am the same, the white lump look is not cool. Some of the fishtank brands (tunze? Aquamedic?) of aquakneedit are purple, so don't look so bad. The zoo's look good. I have NEVER had any luck with zoo's, not sure if its too much light or current or what, but they have never don'e well for me. Pies

    Red Hair

No one really knows what causes cyno, but all the usual things must be considered: * Inadiquite skimming * Inadiquite water flow * Poor water conditions * Too much c02 (from Calcium Reactors) * Low KH * Over stocking / Over feeding * Inaproproiate lighting (old bulbs, wrong kelvins) I had it with my old tank but don't have it in my new tank. not sure what caused it to dissapear but it just slowly went away. Some have been doing 'anitred' etc, no experance with it myself. Pies

WOW! Some great photos from everyone! Cracker you tank looks GREAT, love to see some more pics and a 'whole' pic to give an idea of layout. Looks awesome. Reef - WOW you tank is looking good, with some nice coloured acros in there too. The brown/blue-tiped staghorn on the right hand side has grown a LOT since the last time I saw it. Coolies, more pics! Too small, you should pop over and check out our 3M wide front projector, in our dedicated HT room I have a line on cheap plasma TVs. Looking at a little 42 for the fishtank room. Pieola

    In Christchurch

I am going to be in Christchurch next week for a night on family business. Any chance of hooking up with anyone down there and seeing a tank or 2? Rob some frags on the way out? PM me if your about. Pie
  10. Nah too be honest, I hav't actually read a lot about it. Just saying that I have read a lot of stuff and its a very common theme, but in all fairness is often only a few sentances and doesn't appear to be the sucject of a great deal of tested. I also remember reading something on Advanced Aquariest Online about people using carbon to remove excessive yellowing of their water, which they belive increased the light and shocked the coral into recess/bleech. So I am sure your theory is sound. But in the examples above, Fay was already using carbon, but changed brands, the EXTRA STRENGTH carbon hosed her tank, I doubt it had anything to do with making the water so much clearer that lights got better. I just chucked another 400watter light on my tank, no side effects at all, I am sure this would add more light than cleaning the water with carbon (which I do as well, my water is often sparkling). 11. Chimera. Is it running yet? Photos? Piemania
  12. Layton - So your right, and published authors like Bob Fenner & Julian Sprung are wrong? I know who I am beliving Pie
  13. I have my phosphate remover in a liquidosed reactor, and have a bag (stocking) with carbon in the same reactoer, seperated by an eggcrate divider. Super carbon! Pie
  14. Everything i've read shows and says not to use to much carbon too quickly or to run it in a filter as it strips too much from the water, stress's the animals and causes problems. Its not hard find this information in books and on the net, its a common theme. Pie
  15. Really it proves that a sudden drop on certain nutrients can have a negitice effect. The dangers of carbon shock is well documented. I use 'cheap' carbon' from brooklands, not sure of brand, 0 phophates though which is good. I use 300ml at a time, over 2200 litres of water. Keep it in the tank for 3 weeks, then it gets dumped. I then give the tank a break for a week or 2. I run mine in a stocking in my liquidosed reactor. Shame about the bleeching and problems, hope it all sorts its self out shortly. Piemania
  16. Many people who purchase acrylic tanks are ultimatly dissapointed. The problem is scratches. Check with RnB on this site, he owns one see what he has to say. As for acrilic, its better opticly than glass, the only distortions you will get is at the bent/glued edges and from scratches. There will be no colouration problems, it should look great. Good luck sounds like a fantasic project. Pie
  17. Yah thats it, why not use those? The spiraly plumbing stuff looks kinda ugly. Pieman
  18. Arn't the squirts the things that you put on the end of the pipes that spind around? Pies
  19. I've seen it in photos before. Looks kinda snaky. Sea Swirls? I thought you were going to use the OM Squirts? Pie
  20. Doesn't that say 2.5 meters hight and 2.5 metres long? That is one big mutha of a tank. I suspect you will need glass about a foot thick! Pies

I am not really bothered. Just seem silly if we only have 3 new posts a day and each is in a different section. Other sites have much larger numbers of visitors than us. There are probable not more than 10 regular posters on this forum. Piemania

Do we really need a photography section? At the moment its not like there is so much activity that you can't keep up. I mean look at the members tanks, or even DIY section. Not a lot of action. what would be UBEr would be disk space to store the photos! Photos!
