It looks to me like the plants have been grown emersed and are having a struggle converting to submersed growth. You can sometimes have better luck if you put these plants in a glass of water on the window sill until they grow roots.

There are many things being set up when you cycle a tank and establishing the start of the nitrogen cycle is only one of them. Bacteria in a bottle, fish food or a dead shrimp actually has little to do with the state the tank will be in when it has cycled. Two small fish and some patience will establish conditions required by two small fish and nothing else will. Some people have convinced the world that cycling slowly and showing some patience is cruel but how cruel is it to put your fish into a tank full of the wrong bacteria? I used to breed 50000 tropical fish a year and have never artificially cycled a tank yet. Every one to their own I guess.

Unfortunately most people are more interested in facebook and youtube these days and most people who know anything about breeding fish, turtles, newts or reptiles area bit sick of the BS on those sights.

It is rare. Albino is a gene for lack of melanin and leucistic is a gene for lack of colours such as melanin. green, blue etc. My leucistic is a yellow colour with red eyes and yours looks almost translucent like it only has melanin. You can get black birds with white patches because of partial leucistic.

Not Ludwigia and not an aquatic plant. Has been gown emersed and is in flower. I would suggest it is a pot plant but don't know what it is. Unlikely to live long in an aquarium I would suspect.

Might I just say that in a previous life I built a fish house with 60 tanks and bred 50000 tropical fish a year for a number of years and never once cycled a tank with ammonia or a dead prawn and never once had a problem. When a tank is cycled there are many things going on as well as the nitrogen cycle and a proper cycle comes from adding fish slowly and being patient. Instant gratification is not he best answer for you or your fish.

You should be able to catch them with a net and a torch at night from local streams as their eyes shine with the torchlight.

Thanks for the info. I know about angel genetics as I have bred thousands of them in a previous life. The reason you don't see many double blacks is that they are usually weaker and slower to develop so most people would breed them to something recessive like gold. As I said earlier, if you breed black to black you will get some. Throw in a long fin gene or two and you will have a spectacular fish. Best to breed then from the male.

When tanks are made the structural glue is done first and the tank will be sound and waterproof. The glueline I suspect you are talking of is added later to make the tank look better and to be more readily cleaned. It should be OK

You do not need any permits from MPI or MAF to breed and sell goldfish or approved tropical fish. You may need a resource consent from your local council if you wish to sell to the public. It would cover such things as car parking if it was required. I have in the past bred 50000 tropical fish per year but I sold them all wholesale to retailers so there were no problems with car parking etc.

Very large geckos are not likely to be established genetically in the very few generations that we have had them in New Zealand but more than likely caused by too much of the wrong food. Dark yellow to orange hatchlings that revert to normals as adults may not be genetic as well but may be caused by some environmental factor. There are some interesting morphs popping up (such as the whites held by rabbit) and there is the start of other factors such as flashes of orange but these will take many more generations to develop to something permanent. I have the original mack snows that were bred by someone who had bred the very fancy varieties while living overseas and they were confirmed as mack snows by the experts on overseas forums. I have added more since and now have two unrelated breeding colonies. I have made one available for anyone who wants to breed this strain or others related to it and anyone that only wants to bad mouth will be blacklisted like muck05 (whoever he or she may be). Good luck all you serious gecko breeders.

I think there are some strains popping up and also a lot of claims popping up. some of the claims in my opinion are bollocks. A small orange blotch on the tail is not a carrot tail even if with selective breeding over many generations it may get there.
