Hey guys.

Just curious, A guy from WetPets in Palmy told me there was an algae eater that does fine in cold water with goldfish. its not BN... it was a small silvery looking one. He wasn't particularly fond of it though. But anyway was curious if anyone knows which one he was talking about because I can't seem to remember....

Thanks!

Ok This morning i found Axel (my axolotl) on the floor behind my bookcase . Luckily he was still alive . He must have jumped out the gap between the HOB filter and the lid when he was darting around the tank. I changed back to the old internal filter i previously used so there is no gap and i put Axel back in the tank. Now he has a small cut on his tail and he just looks terrible. I read that they often escape if the water quality is bad or too hot. I did a 20% water change and the temp is reaching 24c.

Is that temp too high :-? ?

If so how can i safely keep the tank cooler :-? ?

How can i help him recover :-? ?

Thanks a lot

Hey there I have an outside 20gallon tank with wcmm and was wondering if I could put in peppered corydoras in there?

the temp is usually at 20c but in the winter drops down to 10c. I have read people (in nz) have keeped them in outdoor ponds through the winter and they have even breed rapidly some people have even had them survive with 2 inches of ice over the top!

I have heard peppered Cory’s actually like the cold. So what do you think?

thanks also are there any other hardy coldish Cory’s? Thanks

We've made a pond out of a small spa lined with pond plastic it's around 1000lt. The pond has no outlet so we siphon off and replace water.... I've been using the pond conditioner called Microbial algae clear. The water is quite green there is no algae but it seems murkier each week. The fish are happy, not looking for air and feeding well

So do we have a problem or is green water normal.

Some of you have followed the build of my pond, starting in 2006. Here it is today. The hebes are well overgrown (and hang almost halfway over the pond, making it look a lot smaller than it is) and some will be hacked back and others removed entirely. As I have to get into the pond to reach them I am waiting for warmer weather

The mint is doing well. Hi Welly Fishkeepers. Alternatively does anyone know where to collect some wild in the Wellington region? Cheers Bert ?

	Hi all,

Been many years since I've posted on here. These days I am down to an outdoor aquaponics tank. Roughly 400-500 litres.

Currently the grow bed has started sprouting lots of water cress.

The tank only houses 4/5 Bronze comets which are upto about 10cms now.

With this warm weather and plenty of sun here in Gisborne, the tank has taken a turn and gone cloudy green and growing algae

I need recommendations on what I can do to hopefully eliminate the algae or at least minimise it.

Being an aquaponics tank I can't use any treatments that I know of without harming the bacteria growing in the grow bed.

So I am on the lookout for specific critters and their names?

	Thanks all

Hey there I have an outdoor 23 gallon tank

with 2 hillstream loach’s heavily planted and moved all my wcmm and danios to my current 40gallon tank and now have this tank practically empty.

I am thinking of getting guppies danios and a paradise fish to this tank

maybe 3 guppies one male then I can move baby’s to my other 5 gallon tank and 8 danios and one paradise fish maybe a. Male but will try get an orange and blue one as apparently they are a little less aggressive.

does this sound ok? Or shall I give the paridise fish a miss and get 5 guppy’s and 8 danios?

I like these fish as they are more cold hardy and apparently wouldn’t mind the temps of my outdoor tank.

	thanks

We moved to the north island to the south island and decided to change from tropical fish to gold fish. We cycled the new tank for 2 weeks. Added food to help with the cycling and 3 weeks ago added fish. The amonia level remains high. Some of the ornaments started spotting and I cleaned them. I did a 25% water change a few days ago and cleaned the filter. Added stress coat and vacummed the gravel. Now the tank water is getting greener and greener. I have stopped feeding and turned off the light for a day. There is 1 life plant in the tank, some ornaments and 2 fantail goldfish. What can I do to get nice clear water? Some of the products they try to sell me are so expensive and staff contradicts when I ask (students I think)
Hey there I have kept white cloud minnows in my outside aquarium and pond and they have breed crazy!

I kind of want to get a new species of fish but it’s hard to find a fish that can thrive the conditions of Nz

so I heard that danios can survive with ice on top of the tank/pond and was wondering if I can keep danios with my white cloud minnows?

in an outdoor pond and tank the temp is around 23 degrees C most of the time but drops to around 15 degrees at night.

I can’t get the zebra danio as my closest pet store stoped selling them only the normal danios I can get now like the Cadillac danios etc.

	could this work?

	Thanks!

I know that there are no really cold water guppies. But I saw a topic on here about you can slowly breed them to cold water is this true?

And how would I be able to do this? Thanks!

For some reason we can never see our pond fish but the oxygen weed (yes, it is one of the noxious ones. Our local waterways are full of it) is flowering. No flowers yesterday, hundreds all over the place today ?

We will be filling in the pond soon so will have to be careful how we dispose of the oxygen weed. Should be able to sell off all the lilies as they will split into multiple plants. All yellow at the moment as the pink one flowers later. Plenty of snails too!

Just a few questions regarding axolotls. Can you keep two adults in a two foot tank or do you need a three foot tank? Also do Axolotls need company or is one fine by itself. There is conflicting information on the internet sites I have been to on axolotls. At present I am looking at either getting one in a two foot tank, or two in a two foot tank, which are for sale at present. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Guys i have a school project about the freshwater fish and the life around them. I need to find out what the basic PH and salinity that certain native fish can live in like the five species of whitebait and bullies. If you guys could help give me a bit of information by Monday that would be very much appreciated. Kind regards Jack
