JBL micromech vurses Eheim Substrate Pro?

Bastables

Recommended Posts

Does any one have any information or personal experience of either one being more effective than the other.

On the box Eheim has 450 m2 effective surface area per litre.

JBL has 1500 m2 effective surface area per litre. It also claims to have pores small enough to accumulate the bacteria that eat nitrates in the same way that sechem matrix does.

The only review or discussion I've found is on a greek forum where one person pointed out that the 1500 m2 may not be true as it would clog up more resulting in considerably less surface area.

I use JBL micromec and sintomec and they work really well for me. I often have a 0ppm reading of nitrates in my heavily planted and overstocked tanks. I prefer the noodles to the balls because the balls breakdown quicker (they have a kind of shell that begins to break off after 9mths).

I haven't tried the Ehiem products so I can't do a comparison.
